Review: Bare Escentuals Prime Time Foundation Primer Oil Control

I had a 20% discount voucher to spend at Sephora last month. I picked up 2 Essie top coats and a Bare Essentials Prime Time Foundation Primer Oil Control. I've never tried any face primer before besides Smashbox Primer that broke me out, I decided to give this one a try.

On the production description, it says water-based primer, oil-, silicone- and fragrance-free, control shines for sensitive, oily or problem-prone skin.

It received some pretty bad reviews on MUA, a lot of reviews said...

It flakes/peels off
This doesn't happen to me (I tried rubbing my face to see if I'd find any flakes - nothing). I only use one pump of product. I spread the primer evenly all over and massage my face and pat it gently until the primer is dry. I let it sit for 1-2 mins before applying the liquid foundation (I use MUFE HD Foundation).

It smells
It does have this slightly weird smell but not strong. You know how fragrance-free products can a smell a little weird sometimes? That's the only words I can describe the scent.

Does it do what it says?
Yes and no. The primer is colourless with light texture. It doesn't break me out. My foundation does go on smoothly. My makeup lasts longer, espcially the concealer. As for oil control, it does help a little but I don't see a big difference (I've combination skin with oily T-zone).

This is not a bad product but I can live without it.

  2. Btw, do you have ArtDeco in Cz?
And if yes, have you tried it?

  3. ArtDeco is here too but I've never tried anything from this brand. I've read the other version of this primer (none oil-control) actually works better than the oil control one.

  4. I'm on a hunt for an ArtDeco's foundation (very difficult to find in the UK) so going to check out Cz websites now (hope I'll find something) :P

  7. Smashbox primer broke me out too! I think it was because of the silicone in it maybe. I haven't tried this primer but it sounds pretty good. I have to agree that face primers are something I can live without. I usually don't experience any problems with foundation sliding off or anything :)

  8. I've tried it before, but I didn't notice much difference in regard to making the foundation last longer. I prefer MAC prep and prime.

  9. What? a 20% off coupon? I only got 1 for 15% off. :( Lucky you. How are you liking your Essie polishes?

  10. Miss A: Sent you a mail! :)

Rinny: I was hoping Smashbox would work for me since there are so many raves about the product but it didn't work for me.

Beauty Addict: I've tried Prep and Prime before but I tend to skip primer when I'm wearing makeup.

Mara: Sephora here often gives away 20% off vouchers at the mall near me. I'm not sure why though :) Unfortunately the brands selection isn't as wide as it is in the US :( The 20% off voucher I got was for Sephora Club members. I love Essie Good To Go! top coat :)
